What this does

Paste a video link and a word or phrase, and this comment finder asks YouTube for the top-level comments that match. The matching words are highlighted in each result, and every result has an Open on YouTube link that goes to that comment.

Leave the search box empty and it loads the first 300 top-level comments instead, in the order YouTube ranks them. Typing in the box then narrows the loaded list as you type. Press the button again to run a new search across the whole video.

Sort the results by likes or by newest, and save the list on screen as a CSV file. Replies are not searched or listed, only top-level comments.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

How do I search the comments on a YouTube video?

Paste the video link and a search term above and press Find comments. The matching top-level comments come back with your words highlighted. Without a term you get the first 300 comments, which you can then filter by typing.

Does it search replies?

No. It lists top-level comments only. A reply is not shown as its own result, though each result tells you how many replies sit under it.

How many comments can it search?

It asks YouTube for up to three pages of 100 comments, so at most 300 come back. With a search term YouTube does the matching across the video and we show what it returns. Without one, you see the first 300 top-level comments in YouTube's ranking and the filter only covers those.

Why does a result have no highlight?

YouTube runs the search and we highlight your words ourselves, so the two can disagree. A result with no highlight is one YouTube returned where we could not find your exact words in the comment text.

Can I link to one comment?

Yes. Each result has an Open on YouTube link built from the video ID and the comment ID, and it takes you to that comment on YouTube.

Can I download the matches?

Yes. Download .csv saves the list as it is on screen, so the filter and the sort order are applied. It holds the author, the comment, the likes, the date and the reply count.

What if the video has comments turned off?

The tool says comments are turned off for that video. Nothing can be searched.

Do I need an account?

No. It is free and needs no sign-in.
